Disk 2.3 News Analysis
In this News Analysis section, Guy Cohen explains the simple methods available through his software for users to check on both general market sentiment as well as company specific news.
Although Guy uses publicly available sources of stock market online information both in Flag-Trader and in his other products it is his intention to incorporate the necessary links into his application in order to make life as simple as possible for the trader that is notable.
There is therefore no need to go outside the Flag-Trader platform for any information required to make trading decisions.
You can see from the screenshot here that having used the Tradefinder software to find flag patterns indicating possible trades a list of candidates is presented. Clicking on any of the links will take you to the Yahoo! Finance chart for that stock. Using the technique shown you can also access the major stock indices in order to check on general market sentiment.
As will most trading strategies, flag traders are going to trade with the trend. So understanding overal sentiment and whether the market is rising or falling is important.
The listing also provides information on whether an Earnings Report is due with it's date so that you can check on that if you choose although generally to be avoided. Each icon also links directly to the relevant information. e.g. to the price chart, whether the stock is optionable, has a flag, is in a trend (different trend durations can be specified by the user in the filters).
Bigger news events than the company Earnings Report can also affect stock prices right across the market. Statements by the Federal Reserve, employment statistics, retail sales etc are all factors that can affect the overall market so it is important to stay connected to the calendar of economic reporting. Again, Guy provides links to those pages where this information can be readily found.
